Queerty: Trump wastes no time spreading lies about Ruth Bader Ginsburg

NEW YORK, N.Y. – September 19, 2020: A makeshift memorial to United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is seen outside the New York State Supreme Court Building in Foley Square.

Donald Trump has done it again, and by ‘it’ we mean lower the standard of decency past the point anyone thought possible.

The president phoned into Fox News Monday morning to offer his thoughts on Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s much-publicized dying wish — that her replacement not be appointed until after the election is settled.

Ginsburg dictated the message to her granddaughter, Clara Spera, reported NPR shortly after the justice’s death.

But on Fox, Trump called it out as a possible conspiracy cooked up by his political rivals. He backed this claim up with…nothing…absolutely nothing.

When asked about it, he said:

“Well, I don’t know that she said that, or was that written out by Adam Schiff and Schumer and Pelosi? I would be more inclined to the second.

“That sounds like a Schumer deal, or maybe a Pelosi or Schifty Schiff that came out of the wind. Let’s see, I mean, maybe she did, maybe she didn’t.

“Look, the bottom line is, we won the election. We have an obligation to do what is right and act as quickly as possible, we should act quickly because we’re going to have probably election things involved here.”

According to the NPR piece, Ginsburg told Spera:

“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chair, responded on Twitter a couple of hours later.

“Mr. President, this is low. Even for you. No, I didn’t write Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dying wish to a nation she served so well, and spent her whole life making a more perfect union. But I am going to fight like hell to make it come true. No confirmation before inauguration,” the California congressman wrote.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer also put out a statement:

“Just when you think Trump can’t get any lower, he burrows deeper into the cesspool of callous classlessness. Democrats are united in fighting to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s last wish: ‘My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.’”

Trump is expected to announce his nominee later this week.
