That other time Katy Perry acted creepy towards a young man is coming back to haunt her

Singer Katy Perry is currently at the center of a #HimToo scandal involving the male love interest from her 2010 music video “Teenage Dream,” and it’s reminding people of that other time she was at the center of a #HimToo scandal involving a young male contestant on American Idol.

In a series of (now private) Instagram posts shared last weekend, actor Josh Kloss accused Perry of pulling down his sweatpants at a July 14, 2012 birthday party in Los Angeles and exposing him to partygoers.

“As I turned to introduce my friend, she pulled my Adidas sweats and underwear out as far as she could to show a couple of her guy friends, and the crowd around us, my penis,” Kloss alleges.

The accusations have divided Perry fans. Some are sticking up for the embattled singer…

While others are declaring her cancelled and using the hashtag #KatyPerryIsOverParty…

Regardless of whether the incident with Kloss actually happened, the situation has reminded people of a time Perry really did behave in a way many felt was inappropriate.

It happened during the premiere of last year’s reboot of American Idol…

A clip from the episode has begun circulating online once again. In it, Perry can be seen fawning over 19-year-old contestant Benjamin Glaze during his audition.

When asked, “Have you kissed a girl and liked it?”, Glaze, who heralds from a small town in Oklahoma, replied that he hadn’t, and that he was saving his first kiss for his first “real relationship.”

That’s when Perry, who was nearly 15 years his senior, stood up and beckoned, “Come here! Come here right now!” Obviously nervous, Glaze walked over. Perry then proceeded to trick him into kissing her on the lips.

Afterwards, Glaze asked for water before performing for the judges, who ultimately declined to advance him to the next round.

Later, Glaze told The New York Times, “I was a tad bit uncomfortable” by the whole thing, adding that if Perry had actually asked him for a kiss, he would have declined, but that, ultimately, he didn’t hold anything against her as it helped give his music more exposure.

He added that he wasn’t happy with his audition, saying, “I should have picked another song to sing and calmed myself down regardless of the kiss. I should have been able to perform under pressure.”

Many pointed out the double standard in Perry’s behavior, saying that if the tables had been reversed, and it had been a male judge demanding a female contestant 15 years his junior kiss him at an audition only to cast her away moments later, people would have been outraged.

Perry, who has a large gay fan base, has featured drag stars in her live performances and became infamous for two of her early songs, “I Kissed a Girl” and her homophobic tune “Ur so gay,” never responded to the criticism.

She has also yet to respond to the allegations made by Kloss.

Trans actors struck another blow for equality this week, as the resource site the Internet Movie Database has adopted a new policy surrounding birth names.

The IMDB, which boasts itself as the world’s most popular site for entertainment information, had come under fire from several transgender artists–including Laverne Cox & Jake Graf–and activist groups like GLAAD, which criticized a site policy that would feature a birth name listing on artist pages. This policy of deadnaming resulted in a legal challenge by GLAAD against the IMDB and parent company Amazon.

Related: Mastercard’s new ‘True Name’ program is a master stroke in trans inclusivity

Now, the site has made a coarse correction. “IMDb now permits the removal of birth names if the birth name is not broadly publicly known and the person no longer voluntarily uses their birth name,” the site said in an announcement. Birth names will still feature on the site, though artists will now have the option to request edits to their page and remove the dead name following a screening process by the site.

“Once the IMDb team determines that an individual’s birth name should be removed – subject to this updated process – we will review and remove every occurrence of their birth name within their biographical page on IMDb,” a spokesperson for the site explained.

Representatives for the IMDB also added one caveat: individuals who were credited on a project using their birth name will still have their original name listed in parentheses under their credit pages. The site insists on keeping the deadnames for a point of historical reference only.

The IMDB is not the first site to come under fire for deadnaming transgender people. Both Wikipedia and Twitter have faced similar scrutiny, though recently Twitter adopted new policies to eliminate the deadnaming slander.

After building her career on cracking jokes about other people’s identities, often by using racist and homophobic language and stereotypes, comedian Sarah Silverman is looking forward to the day when people stop holding her past against her.

During a recent episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” 48-year-old Silverman bemoaned cancel culture, saying people are too quick to write others off for their past mistakes.

“It’s really scary,” Silverman said. “I call it ‘righteousness porn,’ where it’s like, if you’re not on board, if you say the wrong thing, if you had a tweet once. … Everyone is throwing the first stone. It’s so odd, and it’s a perversion.”

She continued, “You have to ask yourself, ‘Would I want this person to be changed, or do I secretly want them to stay what I deem as wrong, so I can point to … myself as right?’”

“There’s so much to be genuinely outraged by, but you have to say, ‘Is the action I’m taking here creating change or creating further division?’”

Related: Sarah Silverman Explains The Art To Telling A Provocative LGBT Joke

Of course, Silverman has quite a backlog of racist and homophobic jokes that weren’t all that funny at the time and certainly haven’t aged well, including a 2007 skit where she wore black face (she now says the looking at the skit makes her “feel yucky” and recently cost her a job) and homophobic tweets like this:

Last year, Silverman addressed her homophobic past, particularly her frequent use of the word “gay” as a punchline during her comedy act.

“Yeah, I’m done with that,” Silverman told TMZ. “I think I can find other ways to be funny. I mean, I used to say ‘gay’ all the time…’oh, that’s so gay.’ We’re from Boston, we’d go, ‘That’s what we say in Boston. I have gay friends. I just say gay.’”

She continued, “And then I heard myself and I realized I was like the guy who said ‘What? I say colored…I have colored friends.’ And I realized it was stupid and I’m certainly creative enough to think of other words besides that, that don’t hurt people. But I f*ck up all the time.”

Speaking to Simmons, Silverman says she hopes people will eventually be able to move on from the mistakes of her past, which she has apologized for many times and says she has “devoted my life to making it right.”

“I’m not saying, ‘Don’t hold me accountable,’” she said. “I held myself accountable. I can’t erase that I did that, but I can only be changed forever and do what I can to make it right for the rest of my life.”

She added, “I’ve always said that if I look back on my old stuff and don’t cringe, there’s something wrong. If you’re putting yourself out there, it’s not going to be timeless — it’s just not.”

Ron Gould, Mohave County Supervisor and former Arizona state senator, has come under fire for saying gay men only live 42 years due to their “sinful lifestyle.”

Gould made the comments to the Kingman Daily Miner, a local newspaper. Gould proudly touted his anti-queer record and made the claim about gay life expectancy when asked about gay people dying young.

Related: STUDY: Life Expectancy Of HIV-Positive Gay Men Similar To That Of General Population

“That’s why they die,” Gould said, referring to the “sinful” gay lifestyle. “We all have our sins, but we should try to suppress them. Alcohol is harmful, too, but we don’t see groups promoting alcoholism.” He also slammed marriage equality. “It used to be ‘tolerate us,’;” he said of same-sex marriage, “now it’s ‘accept us.’”

In the same interview, Gould slammed signs written in “Mexican.”

The claim Gould makes about gay life expectancy likely comes from a widely-debunked study from the 1990s sponsored by the anti-gay Family Research Institute. Paul Cameron, the lead researcher on the study, came up with the 42-year number by counting obituaries of gay men in local newspapers and averaging the age of the deceased. Cameron had his membership in the American Psychological Association terminated over his shoddy methods and anti-gay agenda.

Tom Daley needed to guzzle some water recently as he took photos of himself wearing only underwear. The steamy photos — in which the Olympic diver’s red Diesel briefs are riding low on his hips — have been making the rounds on social media, giving a whole new definition to the phrase “thirst trap.”

The world’s collective Twitter thirst over the pics comes as Daley concedes a record to 13-year-old Ukrainian diver Oleksii Sereda, who just became diving’s youngest-ever European champion at an age three months younger than Daley was when he set the record in 2008.

An alarming new study examines the sexual and psychological health of male inmates being held in Belgian prisons and how taboos surrounding homosexuality often prevent open dialogues about their sexualities.

The study was conducted by Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a Dutch-speaking university in Brussels. It was overseen by professor Johan Vansintejan and Dr. Glenn Boulanger, who spoke to over 120 male inmates being held in ten different prison facilities around the country.

Related: What is federal prison like for a gay man? This former inmate shares all the details

Researchers observed that the men’s sexual needs were often left unaddressed, leading to situations of abuse and violence that often go unreported.

6% of the inmates surveyed reported being forced to engage in sexual acts at least once with other man. A quarter of them said that they didn’t report what had happened to them because they didn’t feel comfortable talking about due to the taboos surrounding homosexuality.

An additional 7% of inmates said they had engaged in sexual acts with fellow prisoners voluntary, though they didn’t always want to. In some cases, the inmates agreed to the encounters in exchange for drugs, food, or protection.

“That is why it’s so important that sexuality is discussed in prison,” says Boulanger. “Sexuality is just as important for people in prison as for people outside.”

Inmates who reported being the most satisfied with their sexual needs being met were those who received unsupervised two-hour conjugal visits from their partners at least once a month.

Related: Guards ignored gay prisoner’s cries for help as he was brutally raped and beaten

Three-quarters of these inmates reported that the visits have a positive effect on their overall well-being.

“The ones with a steady partner … are generally happiest about their sex lives,”  Boulanger says. “The undisturbed visit plays an important role in this.”

“Maintaining a relationship contributes to a better mental and physical health of both the detainee and his partner.”

Researchers conclude that addressing inmates’ sexual needs and breaking down the taboos surrounding sexuality  would have a positive impact on their overall health and create conditions for the men to engage in safe sexual contacts and relationships.

Additionally, they say, it would help to ensure inmates receive necessary protection against sexual violence.

Actor Wilson Cruz, one of the first celebrities to call for a boycott of Equinox gyms, has taken to Twitter to share his fury. Following a request to cancel his membership, the gym has yet to respond.

The Star Trek: Discovery star became one of the first celebrities to call for an Equinox boycott over owner Stephen Ross’ decision to host an expensive fundraiser for Donald Trump. Ross and Trump have been friends for years.

However, with concern over Trump’s policies continuing to mount–especially over those pertaining to Latino people–Cruz called for a mass cancellation of gym memberships as part of a boycott of Ross owned businesses. Previous reports characterize panic among gym employees as members began mass cancellation of their memberships.

Cruz, however, still refuses to let Equinox off the hook. “Your tone-deaf response to this matter to a clientele you have betrayed is beyond the pale,” he said via tweet. “Don’t make me come in to an actual gym because an in-person meeting won’t be pretty. I’ve had more than enough of the posturing and obfuscation.” He also added, “Stephen Ross’ fundraiser for Trump, your delayed and ridiculous response, the excuses you have made for Mr. Ross to the public and your employees and the audacity of Trump and Ross to LAUGH about this issue are disgusting.”

Cruz also threatened to come into the gym to meet with employees should he not receive a response to his cancellation. “Don’t make me have to send another email and don’t make me have to come into the gym because an in-person meeting won’t be pretty.”

NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. is not having any of the homophobic nonsense currently being directed at him on social media.

This week, the Cleveland Browns receiver shared a thirsty photo from his upcoming Calvin Klein underwear campaign to Instagram, along with the caption: “Here’s a pic of me and a world class lamp.”

So far, the photo, which is part of a larger campaign that also includes Diplo, Gigi Hadid, Jacob Elordi, Lay Zhang, and Jelly Lin in “real-life” situations, has received over 800K likes and 22K comments, including several homophobic ones.

“Boy look gay as hell,” one person wrote.

“Omm he gay,” another added.

“He low key gay tho,” a third person said.

But it didn’t stop there.

“Bro that’s mad weird,” someone else commented.

“He tryna defend the fact that he’s gay,” yet another person added.

“It’s not too late to delete this breh,” wrote another follower.

Beckham directly responded to the criticism in a comment on the post that read:

Yallll chilllll mann damnnnn! It be a lot of y’all sayin sus and alll the other comments that realllly be a direct reflection of who u are! Im straight! Like beyond it. If I sit here and defend myself y’all gon say im tryna defend myself , if I sit there and say nothin yalll gon say ‘seee he didn’t say anything..’I’m good wit me. Which is dumb straightttt… Period. lol I don’t neeed to say this shxt no mooooo! Half y’all girls in these comments. This the last time ima break this shxt down for y’all. And lastly before I got hit the weight room! Much love to everybody out there! Fellas sorry man, gotta get a (bag) for it!

In a recent interview with GQ, Beckham addressed the gay rumors that have been following him around since 2015.

“I’ve never had an opportunity to talk about this,” he said. “Honestly wasn’t offended.  … It was almost more funny to me.”

Later in the interview, he added, “I have no problem with anyone’s sexual orientation. … Love is love. If you’re attracted to somebody, you’re attracted to somebody. There was such a stigma built up, [as though] I don’t like my own women. It’s like, no, I don’t like anybody who annoys me. [laughs]”

Josh Kloss, the male love interest in Katy Perry’s 2010 video for her song “Teenage Dream,” recently accused Perry of exposing his penis in front of friends at a July 14, 2012 birthday party in Los Angeles.

Related: Katy Perry fans are furious that she collaborated with homophobic rappers

In a series of Instagram posts (from his now private account), Kloss reportedly wrote:

“When I saw her, we hugged and she was still my crush.

“But as I turned to introduce my friend, she pulled my Adidas sweats and underwear out as far as she could to show a couple of her guy friends, and the crowd around us, my penis.

“Can you imagine how pathetic and embarrassed I felt?

“I just say this now because our culture is set on proving men of power are perverse. But females with power are just as disgusting….

“It’s about getting it off my chest, if you were idolized for something you helped create, but were actually used as a prostitute and then physically treated as such, you might understand me.

“So, happy anniversary to one of the most confusing, assaulting, and belittling jobs I’ve ever done.”

Kloss is now 38-years-old.

The U.K. tabloid The Sun reports that Katy’s former stylist Johnny Wujek was celebrating his birthday at the party in question. Wujek has defended Perry from Kloss’ allegations.

Wujek wrote, “I’m not about to let you make accusations against my friend like this. This is such bullsh*t. Katy would never do something like that. We all know about your ongoing obsession with her since the day of filming that video.”

Here is the video for “Teenage Dream”:

This is only the most recent scandal to sweep up Ms. Perry of late. Last week, Perry was successfully sued for $2.78 million by the Christian rapper Flame for allegedly ripping a tune of his off for her 2013 song “Dark Horse.”

Katy Perry has a large gay fan base, has featured drag stars in her live performances and became infamous for two of her early songs, “I Kissed a Girl” and her homophobic tune “Ur so gay.”

Do you struggle trying to fall asleep? Do you feel you don’t get enough sleep and you feel sleepy during the day? You are not alone. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has found that one in three American adults have symptoms of insomnia. Data show there are about 100,000 crashes each year related to drowsy driving which results in 1,550 fatalities and 71,000 injuries. The Institute of Medicine reported that the long-term effects of sleep deprivation can cause serious health consequences such as hypertension, diabetes, heart attack, stroke and depression.

Many people try over-the-counter or prescribed sleep aids. But is there any way to fall asleep faster and get better sleep without medication?

I am sleep researcher and graduate student in biomedical engineering at the University of Texas. In a recently published study in collaboration with the UT Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Southern California, colleagues and I showed that a warm bath or shower one to two hours before bedtime can significantly improve your sleep.

Warm bath, cool body

Like so many people, I had sleep problems. I struggled falling asleep, I would wake up in the middle of the night, restless and would wake up not feeling rested. I didn’t have a sleep schedule. After I started looking into the data, I realized how many people live their lives in a sleep deprived state. I was not interested in taking drugs, so that made me interested in studying about non-pharmacological methods to help improve sleep.

My team and I reviewed more than 5,000 studies related to bathing and sleep. Seventeen of these studies met our study criteria to explore the effects of warm bath or shower on sleep. We used a statistical procedure for combining data from multiple studies and to find the optimal timing for the bath.

We found that a warm bath, of around 104 and 109 degrees Fahrenheit, for as little as 10 minutes can significantly improve overall sleep efficiency. In other words, a warm bath led to more time spent in actual sleep rather than turning or tossing and trying to fall asleep, compared to usual sleep without taking bath. When scheduled one to two hours before bedtime, a warm bath can also hasten the speed of falling asleep by about 36%.

We also found that whether people reported feeling rested and like they had a great night’s sleep improved by a warm bath or shower, in most of the studies.

A woman taking a shower, which can also help to lower core body temperature.
TORWAISTUDIO/Shutterstock.com

Why does the warm bath or shower help? There is science behind it. Our body temperature is not constant during 24 hours. It is higher in the morning and evening, and it is lowest during nighttime sleep. The body temperature needs to drop to initiate good sleep. When we take a warm bath or shower, the body brings large amount of blood flow to the surface, especially hands and feet. This blood flow brings the heat from the core to the surface and rejects the heat to the environment and causes a drop in body temperature. Therefore, if you take a warm bath/shower at the right biological time – one to two hours before bedtime – it will aid your natural circadian process and improve your sleep.

As a next step, we are now working to design a commercially viable bed system with technology that mimics the effect of warm bath. The bed of the future!

Gay adult video performer Beaux Banks has criticized the studio Naked Sword for not hiring any black performers for its upcoming feature-length horror parody Scared Stiff 2: The Amityville Whore.

Of the parody’s 10 performers, most are white and none are African American, though the film does include two men of color. According to the gay adult industry news site Str8UpGayP*rn (link NSFW), “Brock Banks is Puerto Rican and Adam Ramzi is of Middle Eastern descent.”

Though Brock Banks and Ramzi are men of color, they can appear white skinned to unknowing viewers, reinforcing the idea that the Scared Stiff 2 cast is entirely white.

In a series of tweets, Beaux Banks wrote:

I’m sorry but I still don’t get how a major production company can get away with casting a major project, casting 10 models, and not one of them being African American, and y’all be silent. If only it were awards season, and then everyone would be speaking up.

In a world where DeAngelo Jacksos and Max Connors among other amazing African American Adult Entertainers exist, there’s no excuse. Cite the 10 person ensemble cast filled of Caucasian actors but one. Love you all, but it’s time to be accountable.

We’re good enough for your NOIR site, but not good enough for your feature film…

Beaux Banks’ comment about “awards season” is a reference to a controversy when the GayVN Awards, one of the most widely known awards ceremonies in the adult film industry, announced that its 2017 nominees included a “Best Ethnic Scene” category.

None of the black, Asian or Hispanic performers grouped together in the category received a nomination for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, and performers criticized the awards organizers for needlessly segregating performers of color into a separate category.

His reference to the “NOIR site” is an allusion to Noir Male, a gay adult video site that isn’t owned by NakedSword but which hired Scared Stiff 2 director Chi Chi LaRue as its lead director. Noir Male’s tagline boasts that it “Showcases Black Men As They Deserve To Be Seen,” but it was criticized by black performer Jacen Zhu for not catering to the black community. In April 2019, approximately 55 percent of its roster of men was made up of black performers.

LaRue and NakedSword have not yet publicly spoken about Beaux Banks’ public comments.

Instead of using his time to do things that would benefit the country, Donald Trump taunted CNN anchor Chris Cuomo after video of emerged of Cuomo exploding in anger at a man who called him “Fredo,” a reference to Fredo Corleone, the weak son of Vito Corleone in The Godfather.

CNN defended Cuomo in a statement yesterday: “Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup. We completely support him.”
